Overview:

Rising from water's edge on the quaint Island of Coronado in San Diego, the Hotel del Coronado is considered one of America's most beautiful resorts. A classic historic hotel, The Del was built in 1888 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Today, The Del offers travelers every contemporary convenience in an enchanting Victorian atmosphere. It is a combination that moved USA Today to call the The Del "one of the top ten resorts in the world."

For those seeking a romantic getaway, The Del offers a quintessential Southern California resort experience. It's also the perfect family friendly vacation destination, offering abundant recreation options as well as seasonal teen and children's programs.

As a wedding reception location, the Travel Channel has rated The Del the number one wedding destination in America. And, for getting down to business, meeting and incentive planners can work with over 65,000 feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and exhibition space.

To learn more about why The Del is the ultimate seaside destination, do a little surfing of your own here on the site. No sun block required.

Accommodation:

Introducing the Cottages at North Beach, eight exclusive oceanfront guestrooms located on the beach just North of the Victorian Building. In June 2001, The Del acquired the parcel of land know as the Goodman-Strauss Estate, representing 4.81 beachfront acres with two existing cottages adjacent to the resort. The Del then began the upgrading and redesigning of the cottages, which were built in 1956 and 1962, to create the ultimate in beachfront accommodations.

The interiors of the eight cottages were designed with a seaside palate and decorated with overstuffed chairs and bedding. Two of the cottages connect to a large living room with a fireplace, dining room table, wet bar and French doors opening onto a sun-splashed deck overlooking the Pacific.

In addition to current resort services, guests staying in the Cottages at North Beach will be treated to special amenities and services in the privacy of their cottage. The personal indulgences menu includes: drawn bath service; in-room facials and massage; personal trainer; honeymoon "do not disturb kit"; couples massage; candlelit four-course dinner and Hamilton Robusto cigar and cognac (additional charges associated with these services).

"The Cottages at North Beach have dramatically improved aesthetics of the former site both from the resort and beach perspective. The view corridors between the cottages take advantage of the spectacular Pacific views. Public access and circulation of this area has also been significantly improved by separating pedestrian and parking traffic. We believe the development of the cottages and surrounding area are representative of the key elements and objectives to enhance this national treasure," says Michael Hardisty, Managing Director.

Facilities:

Inspired by the romance of the century and voted "Most Romantic Restaurant" by San Diego Magazine, Prince of Wales, the resort's fine dining restaurant, offers intimate indoor and spectacular outdoor terraced dining with romantic candlelight and breathtaking sunset views of the Pacific. Chef Jesse Frost combines classic cuisine with innovative interpretations in his seasonally-inspired menu. In addition to the extensive wine list, Prince of Wales offers a distinctive library wine list, representing selected wineries and vintages from around the world. Jazz piano entertainment is featured nightly.

Sheerwater is the Hotel del Coronado's oceanfront restaurant featuring expansive outdoor dining terraces and giant fireplaces.

Sheerwater offers California coastal cuisine: regional specialties that emphasize bold flavor, tantalizing spices and seasonally inspired menus. Signature entrees are prepared in the exhibition oven. A special children's menu includes original takes on traditional childhood favorites. The bar offers signature margaritas, blended tropical drinks and California's premier wines. Serving breakfast, lunch, cocktails, afternoon tapas and dinner daily.

The world-famous Crown-Coronet Room rivals the imagination. Whimsical crown-shaped chandeliers, designed by Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum, drop from glowing sugar-pine ceiling. Spacious windows circling the room offer some of California's most radiant views. The Crown Room offers an award-winning Sunday Brunch (voted "Best Sunday Brunch" by the California Restaurant Association), holiday celebrations and special events. See why the splendor of the Crown Room was chosen as the first state dinner held outside the White House and as a setting for many Hollywood films.
