Gold Canyon Golf Resort is located approximately
forty five minutes east of Phoenix and with the views, the
drive flies by. The Superstition Mountains paint a striking
portrait against the horizon and the landscape grows more
spectacular with each passing mile. Upon making the turn
into the resort, the bleached white casitas speckling the
landscape might even trick you into thinking you've found
yourself in the French Riviera! Très magnifique!
After a healthy warm-up at the practice tee to fend off
the late morning chill, I was feeling pretty good. Even the
driving range is outrageously scenic, but I guess that's
what you get when three talented people come together to
add their personal touches. However, with the extreme landscapes,
it still took Ken Kavanaugh, Greg Nash, and Stuart Penge
nearly 20 years to complete the 36 holes, with the front
nine of the Sidewinder course finally finishing up in 1998.
Dinosaur Mountain, however, gets most of the press.
"The setting is so beautiful, all I was trying to do
is uncover it," says Tucson-based architect Kavanaugh
of Dinosaur Mountain's back nine. "I wanted to make
simple, sweeping shapes that wouldn't conflict with the dramatic
backdrops." |
You'll love the warm, inviting decor
of these spacious Southwest casitas. Each is a cozy one-room
retreat with your choice of one or two queen size beds, refrigerator,
indoor or outdoor fireplace, and private patio. Luxury baths
include complimentary personal amenities. |

This authentic Old West town was created as a movie set
for filming TV and big screen Westerns. Prom John Wayne to
Jimmy Stewart, Ronald Reagan to Elvis Presley, it’s
hosted many a Hollywood cowboy, not to mention gunslingers,
gamblers, and varmints. A walk down Main Street will take
you past the Saloon, the jail, the gallows, and a quaint
little church...offset by gift shops, art galleries, and
donkey rides. The Saloon features lots of IN/movie memorabilia
and serves lunch, dinner and cocktails. Open daily, except
Monday. Located on Kings Ranch Road, just 2 miles north of
the Gold Canyon Golf Resort.
DININGS & BARS: At Kokopelli’s, a gallery of original
Southwest artwork creates an inspiring atmosphere for the
equally inspiring cuisine. Enjoy a tempting selection of
Southwest and Continental favorites. And to top off your
stay...the critics agree — our spectacular Sunday brunch
is among the best of the best.

Golf Resort to enjoy fine dining all day long. Whatever you’re
in the mood for is right here...be it the comfy, casual atmosphere
of Greenwoods Bar & Grill or the relaxed refinement of
Kokopelli’s restaurant. At Greenwoods, you can tee-off
your day with a hearty breakfast and finish it with something
