The Mena House is, if not the best known hotel
in Egypt, certainly one of the better known. For years, this
hotel has been considered one of the finest in Cairo, and is
certainly one of the most historic, with a long and enchanting
past.
The origin of the Mena House was that of a royal lodge for
the Khedive Ismail, used as a rest house for himself and his
guest when hunting in the desert or visiting the Pyramids
at Giza. The main dinning room of today was once the entire
lodge, but in 1869, with the opening of the Suez Canal, the
lodge was enlarged. Also, a road was built between Cairo and
the Pyramids (specifically for the visit of the Empress Eugenie)
which made visits to Giza much easier.

Mena House Oberoi has 523 rooms
and suites in the Palace and Garden wing and cabana style
rooms by the Swimming Pool. Original works of art and magnificent
antiques housed in the hotel speak of the care and attention
to detail. All suites, rooms and cabanas are air-conditioned.
Rooms are elegantly appointed with beautiful arabesque furniture
inlaid with mother of pearl; handcrafted mosaic tiles and
exquisitely carved and brassbound wood doors. Every room is
a quietly sensuous retreat in which to work, relax or watch
the latest video on the in-house TV. Room service operates
round the clock, and a personal valet will take care of all
your needs. Rooms are available in the Palace and Garden wings.

Mena House Oberoi invites guests
to a lavish array of dining options where the culinary arts
and service are treated with reverential respect. The hotel
offers five exclusive restaurants, two bars, a nightclub,
a discotheque and a casino within its premises. In the city
there are two floating restaurants on the Nile, a restaurant
in the khan-el-khahi bazaar and other two specialty restaurants
operated by Oberoi Hotel.
Specialty Restaurants: The Al Rubayt, a magnificently proportioned
room with arabesque arches and mashrabia screens, lit by beautiful,
antique, Islamic lamps, offers superb Continental cuisine
and an international selection of fine wines. The Mughal Room
recreates the mystique of India and specialises in exotically
prepared Indian dishes.
